Scotland’s exquisitely beautiful coastline

NEAR ORKNEY ISLAND, SCOTLAND – Right now I’m traveling with a white-knuckled husband who is gritting his teeth. No, I’m not talking about my driving. We are, in fact, riding in a very comfortable express bus from the Orkney Islands along the mainland coast of Scotland to Inverness, still a 3-hour trip once we are off the ferry.
It is a fantastically beautiful sunny morning. The rugged coastline is exquisitely lit up, with shadows in just the right places. There are sheep and cows posing in the fields, traditional thatched roof barns right next to the road, and all other sorts of daily life things that hold your eyes in wonder.

John is wringing his hands because he can’t pull out his camera and take any pictures through the glare of the bus window.

“I could have pulled over about 300 times by now if we had been driving a car,” he laments when we are almost to the end of this journey.
Such is the disadvantage of bus and train travel, I will admit. Then again, we actually made it to our destination that day.
It’s not like John hasn’t gotten some really fantastic photos already. Nor is it a fact that he has processed all of them and they are either uploaded to Shutterstock or ready and waiting for an article on our blog. No, it’s all about the chase; and so far he has captured some really great images in Scotland.
Do I think he’s suffering? No, just whimpering somewhat about the day’s missed opportunities. I have to say though, that was some really fantastic scenery.
