HANOI, VIETNAM – I’m not giving up, but I am pretty frustrated. Sometimes you just have your mind set on something and you don’t expect to be disappointed. You understand…
You really do, don’t you?
Yummmm. I am so looking forward to cheese popcorn. Just the right amount of salty to go with what I’m drinking at this time – a good dark beer. Here is a picture of the package.
First you have to get the darn packaging open, so I wrestle that project with a serrated knife big enough to kill. I walk into the living room with my drink, ready to sit down and relax.
I take a handful of this wonderful delicious-looking cheese treat – all that salt, my mouth is watering – and I throw it in…
What? This is sweet! It is coated with sugar like it should be coated with cheese! Where is the cheese? It looks like cheese, but now that I smell the ingredients it smells like sugar. Oh no!
I take a closer look at the package. No, I grabbed the right one; it says English cheddar cheese alright. I mean, look at that packaging; who would not want to eat that?
Mind you, I knew it was a product of Thailand. But they have English people in Thailand; that should not be a problem. Of course, I can’t read Thai, and I can’t read the Vietnamese labeling put on over the Thai either. “But hey, how wrong can it be,” I thought?
Now I am really concerned because at the same time I bought this package, I also bought a package of caramel-covered popped corn from the same company. It is up in the cupboard. Could the snack I’m expecting to be sweet turn out to be…?
No, that’s it. I’m done. This is enough adventure for tonight.
Would you continue?
Ah, well, an experiment is an experiment! Hope you’re finding something decent to eat.
