DANANG, VIETNAM – We don’t normally have beer for breakfast. But, as we’ve said before on these pages, whenever we walk out our apartment door, we never really know what to expect.
Black pepper grows on trees… kinda sorta
PHONG NHA, VIETNAM – During our recent visit to Phong Nha, we enjoyed an informative morning walk around the rural Farmstay Village.
As we walked, Phong Nha Farmstay co-owner Ben Mitchell shared some of the history of the village, the development of the various Farmstay enterprises over the last nine years and his vision for the future of the community-based businesses.
Party at the pool, Vietnamese style
DA NANG, VIET NAM – It all started with a text message from our friend Linda. “Are you coming to the party at the pool?”
Party at the pool? “Oh yeah, I vaguely remember something about a year-end New Year’s party at the My An Sport Center on the 11th. Is that tonight?” I asked.
Cambodia – Make mine champagne
HANOI, VIETNAM – During a recent boat tour around Lan Ha Bay we met a group of women visiting from Spain. They were traveling together around Southeast Asia and had recently visited Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
In talking with them about their adventures, I was reminded of our own trip to Angkor several years back and an amusing experience that happened one evening at our hotel. Salud!

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me. Guess I’ll just eat… grubs
HANOI, VIETNAM – OK, I’ll admit that title isn’t entirely accurate. Not everyone hates me, and I’m sure there must be a couple people who actually like me… at least a little. And I know my wife likes me (most of the time anyway).
But I did eat a grub the other day. Several of them, in fact.
